Baseball Strobe Training - Focus - React...
Baseball - Front Toss - Right Eye Only (Listen to the End) with Strobe Training Glasses
(LISTEN TO THE END) Another challenge to regular front toss. In this drill the hitter has his left eye occluded while the right eye is strobing. This increases the difficulty but also increases the brain to focus. Better focus means the brain gets better info. Better info allows the brain to move the body into a position for success. You can switch modes to work the other eye. Working the weaker eye really helps to eliminate the 'blind spots' in every hitters strike zone. Speed up the brain and the game slows down. Focus on relevant info and ignore irrelevant info and the brain works more efficiently.
Baseball - Tee Work on High Level of Occlusion with Strobe Training Glasses
High occlusion tee work. This hitter has the Strobe Training Glasses at level 55 which is 550ms occlusion followed by 100ms of clear lenses. The glasses take away much of the vision but the brain is still looking for its info in order to move. The brain activates the proprioceptive system (muscles and nerves) so the brain 'feels' where the body is in space. Elite athletes have great body awareness. Awareness allows the athlete to make adjustments from play to play or pitch to pitch. The back half of the video has the hitter move up to 910ms occlusion followed by 100ms of clear lenses. When we challenge the brain it will respond. Focus and feel are enhanced. Better focus and feel allows the hitter to be more efficient with no wasted energy.
Baseball - Reaction Time Tennis Ball Wall Toss with Strobe Traniing Glasses
Reaction time! MLB athletes fielding tennis balls rebounding off of the wall. The coach behind them throws the ball or balls and the athlete must react and catch them. With the Strobe Training Glasses info is taken away and the brain is left with less info to process so the brain works to faster to get as much info as it can. That means better reaction time. After training with the glasses the ball seems slower. The ball is not slower it is that the brain is working faster. We can train the brain to work faster and to maintain that improved reaction time. Focus is improved as the brain learns to process relevant info and ignore irrelevant info. When the brain is 'quiet' the body is more efficient and more likely to perform successfully more consistently.
Baseball - Catchers Heavy Ball Drill with Strobe Training Glasses
This drill is great for catchers of all ages. What we have here is a catcher doing a barehand drill with his dominant eye occluded. This drill accomplishes 2 things. One, the brain learns to process info faster which improves reaction time. Two, by training just the non-dominant eye we make that eye 'wake up' and go to work which results in better focus. This drill can be done with both eyes strobing or just a single eye. When the catcher catches a few in a row then you can increase the level of occlusion/difficulty. Young athletes lose focus all of the time. They are trying to learn focus but the brain is inherently lazy and works against focusing. Strobe Training Glasses MAKES the brain have to focus and learn how to focus. Think of it like weight training for the brain. The brain can be trained to add more resistance. That increased resistance is reflected in improves reaction time and focus.
Baseball - Glove Hand Reaction Toss and Catch with Strobe Training Glasses
Simple drill. Great drill. This drill works on reaction time and focus. The coach tosses balls to the athlete and he must catch them barehanded with his glove hand. To make the drill harder you can increase the level of occlusion or change to mode to single eye. In the single eye mode you can occlude the dominant eye and have the strobing on only the weaker eye. When we train the weaker eye it can learn to give the brain more accurate info so the brain can move the body in a position for success more consistently.
Baseball - Tee Work on High Occlusion Level with Strobe Training Glasses
Tee drills - the foundation to every hitters swing mechanics. This drill is done at a high level of occlusion (550-910ms) followed by 100ms of clarity. When a significant amount of visual info is kept from the brain the athlete must rely on their feel (proprioceptive) and balance (vestibular) systems to make an athletic move. The result will be that the athletes learns better body control and balance. When an athlete has a high level of body control he can may adjustments to the swing. With little body awareness the athlete will continue to repeat mistakes.
Baseball - Tee Drill - 910ms Occlusion with Strobe Training Glasses
Take your tee work to the next level. 'Feel' and 'balance' are the hardest and usually, the last skills to develop for an athlete. Body awareness allows an athlete to make adjustments. Without the ability to make adjustments the athlete will continue to make mistakes. At the higher levels of sports this is what separates the great from the average. In this video, Greg has the glasses on the highest level which is 910ms of occlusion (opaque lens) alternating with 100ms of clarity. He is only seeing 1/10 of a second of info. When we take away more visual info the brain must get its info elsewhere. What happens is that the brain turns to the proprioceptive system (muscles and nerves). The body learns to connect deeper with the brain and balance and body control is learned much faster. Body awareness is what allows elite athletes to make adjustment pitch to pitch. If you cannot 'feel' what you are doing wrong you will continue to do it. You will be inconsistent. That is what separates elite athletes.
Baseball - Catcher Pitch Tracking with Strobe Training Glasses
10yr old catcher tracking and catching ball off of a pitching machine. The distance from home plate and speed of the pitching machine make it an equivalent of catching at 95mph pitch. We can challenge the brain to process info faster which allows the body to react faster. The other benefit of Strobe Training makes the brain have to focus better. That means that the brain doesn't have the bandwidth it usually has so it captures relevant info and learn to ignore irrelevant info (noises, mechanical thoughts, self doubt, pressure, etc.). All catchers get lazy and balls get by them or they just don't react as fast. After training with the Strobe Glasses the athlete processes info faster so the pitches seem slower. Elite athletes process info incredibly fast and that allows them to react to the game speed. Lastly, the catcher will respond with 'soft hands,. Soft hands mean that the catcher is more proactive rather than reactive since they see where they need to move sooner in order to make a successful play. Speed up the brain and slow down the game.
Baseball - Tee Drill - Left Eye Only with Strobe Training Glasses
Tee work can get boring. The brain is lazy and loses focus from swing to swing. With the Strobe Sport Glasses the brain HAS to maintain a high level of focus. In this example, the hitter has only the left eye flashing. This is his weaker eye. When the take away vision from the dominant eye we make the weaker eye have to work. The result is better focus, and better focus results in better reaction time. If your focus is better that means that you are ignoring irrelevant info. The better info the more successful the brain can move the body. The brain works faster when it has less to process. The brain becomes more efficient and the athlete becomes more efficient and consistently. Clear the head of those unnecessary thoughts. They just slow you down.
